Prerequisites for PMI-PMP Certification Exam:

In order to apply for the PMI-PMP certification you need to fulfill one of the following requirements:

Option 1

  • Educational Background

A four years Bachelor’s Degree or Global Equivalent and 35 hours of project management education is required.

  • Project Management Experience

Three years of project management experience.

  • Experience of leading and directing projects

Option 2

  • Educational Background

A Secondary degree, associate’s degree, high school diploma or the global equivalent along with 35 hours of project management education.

  • Project Management Experience

Minimum five years of project management experience.

  • Experience of leading and directing projects

75,000 hours of leading and directing projects.

PMP Certification Exam Pattern:

PMI-PMP examination contains total 200 MCQs and out of those 200 questions 25 questions are considered as the pretest questions and they are placed randomly throughout the examination. Allocated time for the examination is 4 hours. The percentage of questions from each domain is given below

  • Project Closing- 8%
  • Monitoring and Controlling – 25 %
  • Executing -30%
  • Planning -24%
  • Project Initiation – 13%

How to schedule PMP Certification Exam (Computer Based Testing) Online:

Schedule your appointment online at the Prometric website ( You cannot schedule an exam appointment until PMI receives payment of your credential fee. At the Prometric Website you will also need your unique PMI Eligibility ID.

Remember, once you have attained the PMP credential, you must participate in the Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) program to maintain an active certification status. The PMP certification cycle lasts three years. During this time, you must attain no less than 60 professional development units (PDUs) toward credential maintenance. Upon successful completion of a single cycle, a new, three-year cycle begins.
